Meet Ana Maria

A Former Teacher. A Public Servant. A Neighbor.

Hi, I’m Ana Maria Mendez, and I’m running as a candidate for District 5 School Board because I believe our children, families, and educators deserve strong, experienced leadership committed to building a brighter future for our schools.

My passion for education as a former teacher and my dedication to this community compel me to step forward now – to offer my experience, my perspective, and my service.

A Lifetime Dedicated to Education and Service

My journey in education began as a teacher, and as a proud graduate of the Department of Defense (DOD) school system, I understand firsthand the value of strong public schools that meet the needs of every student. My father served in the U.S. military, giving me the opportunity to live in diverse communities across the United States and overseas. This experience taught me the importance of adapting to diverse educational needs, listening to families, and building schools that prepare all children for success in an ever-changing world.

Since moving to Shenandoah in 2017, I have served our community through eleven years of work with the United States Postal Service, including time at the Shenandoah Post Office. In this role, I’ve met countless residents, heard your concerns, and built relationships that reflect the heart of this town – hardworking families who care deeply about their children’s future.

Leadership Rooted in Community Values

Public service has always been part of my life. My grandfather served as mayor in my hometown, where I learned that elected officials are not above the people – they serve at the people’s trust. I have previously stepped forward to run for school board, county commissioner, and state representative in Florida, driven by a lifelong commitment to civic engagement. I was honored to be appointed by President George W. Bush to serve on the Selective Service System, after my nomination by Governor Jeb Bush.

Now, I seek to bring that same spirit of service to our District 5 schools.

As a School Board member, I will focus on:

– Supporting Teachers and Staff – ensuring they have the resources, training, and respect they need to succeed.

– Listening to Parents and Students – building real partnerships that reflect the values, concerns, and hopes of our families.

– Focusing on Student Success – emphasizing both academic excellence and life readiness, so every graduate is prepared for good jobs, higher education, or military service.

– Ensuring Transparency and Accountability – restoring trust through open communication and responsible leadership.

– Creating Safe, Inclusive, and Innovative Schools – where every child feels valued, respected, and inspired to learn.
